Sipdown. I’m honestly not sure where people are getting a soapy flavour from in this tea because I don’t taste anything like that. Of course I also typically do a longer steep and add milk to this tea, so who knows.

I find this a nice strong, traditional English-style tea for waking me up in the mornings without being harsh or unpleasant. I may repurchase the next time I’m in Vancouver.

drank Niagara Icewine by Pluck

Sipdown. The icewine flavour has faded a bit since I got this tea – but it’s been awhile so fair enough. It’s a shame that Pluck seems to have discontinued this tea – it isn’t on their webpage and we haven’t stocked it in the store for awhile.

Most of the icewine flavored teas are actually from metro, a wholesaler that sells to independent little shops. Yours may or may not be from metro. Take a look at the icewine tea from Margaret’s Fine Imports and see if that looks the same. If not, it’s still a decent icewine. http://pittsburghcuppa.com/icewite1lo.html

Ah nope, not the same, this tea has a white tea base for one and no raisins in it. Thanks for the suggestion, though. :)

Aww, sorry!

Sipdown…sorta. When I purchased this tea, I didn’t quite realize how many teabags it came with. 50 teabags is a lot to go through especially when you’re not super enthusiastic about the blend. Don’t get me wrong, I think it was decent for a bagged green tea, but I don’t want to drink it every day for two months. I tried giving some away with the GCTTB….but it just ended up coming right back around to me. I guess I should take a hint. ;p

By now I’ve had this tea for several years and time has taken its toll on the flavour. So today, after brewing up a final cup, I made the decision to throw out the rest. At least the money from the purchase went to a good cause, so I don’t feel it was wasted.

I’m a huge sucker for DT’s limited edition teas, it’s the whole ‘gotta try it in case it’s really good’ urge. This one is pretty decent compared to some of their other seasonal offerings that I’ve tried. Its dominant flavour is cacao with a sweet caramel-like undertone. But in this case it’s sort of a burnt caramel flavour – not badly burnt but enough that it probably wouldn’t pass muster in a high-end bakeshop. The sweetness become more apparent as the tea cools off and it takes on a bit of a strange aftertaste, so definitely not a tea to have iced. This blend isn’t half bad, but I don’t think I’ll purchase more than the 25g that I already have.

drank Nutty Granola Crunch by DAVIDsTEA

This seems to be another one of those polarizing teas – people either love it or hate it. I really enjoyed it – just like I loved the similar Peanut Butter Cup from last autumn. This has coconut instead of chocolate but it has the same nuts-and-honey flavours with a hint of baked oats. If you haven’t tried it as a latté I really encourage you to (same goes for the Peanut Butter Cup).

I was a huge fan of the original Strawberry Zabaglione so you really didn’t have to twist my arm that hard to convince me to try this tea. I found the raspberry flavour to be nice and strong and natural-tasting – and not hibiscus pretending to be raspberry. However this doesn’t really have the creamy, custardy flavour that I loved about the original strawberry zabaglione blend.

drank Pink Lemonade by DAVIDsTEA

You know for something that isn’t actually lemonade this blend actually does a pretty good job of replicating the flavours. I’m drinking it hot right now (yes I know it’s intended as an iced tea) but even hot it reminds me of hot lemonade that I drink in the winter when I have a cold. It’s very tart and lemon-y in flavour and despite the stevia leaf it could maybe stand to be a bit sweeter. Next time I’ll try icing a pitcher with a bit of sugar.

I love all these French teas. This one has quite a strong bergamot scent and I was expecting it to be something like an earl grey. Instead the flavour, while citrus, was more like sweet oranges than bergamot. There’s also a nice floral undertone that stays pleasantly subtle and underneath it all are some smooth vanilla notes.

The great thing about French teas, I’ve found, is the deftness with which flavours are blended – they hint at flavour notes rather than beat you over the head with them. I’ve rarely come across a French tea that’s heavy-handed in its flavouring.

Yes! Great note! I have seen French teas with a list of flavors a mile long. If anyone else had done it, those flavors would have mashed together like mud, but the French can blend them so expertly that you taste each one as a separate layer and it still isn’t overdone.

drank Figue Fraîche by Dammann Frères

GCTTB I was mildly skeptical about how ‘fig-like the flavour would actually be considering that it’s a bit older. Maybe Davids Tea has me jaded. ;) But as it turns out I was pleasantly surprised but how authentic the flavour was. It tastes more like the dried figs I eat around Christmas-time, than fresh figs to me, but that’s hardly a bad thing.

A great way of having your figs…without the wasps. ;p

Ha! My mom won’t even eat figs due to said symbiosis.

I got a sample of this in the GCTTB 2.0 with fair warning that it was a little old. In my opinion it’s still a very nice tea with a smooth, light oolong base and sweet caramel flavours. I ate some homemade matcha shortbread with my cuppa tea and that really made the flavour pop. I’ll have to keep an eye out for this tea in stores so I can snag a fresh(er) canister.

How I wish Winners would carry their tea again.

I’ve been drinking tea since I was young but it’s only in the past couple years that I’ve become interested in the good-quality stuff.
