drank Jumpy Monkey by DAVIDsTEA

I received this tea as a Christmas gift, which is good because I never would have picked it out myself (the ingredients don’t exactly draw me in). The biggest impression I get from this tea is that of warmth. The woodsy mate combined with a slightly burnt coffee taste give a very cozy, warming sensation. This tea is very suited to someone who lives where winters get to -45 degrees celsius, like me ;) It really takes the chill out, and definitely peps you up.

While I do like this tea, I have to admit it might mostly be a mental thing. The flavours are all things I enjoy- especially ginger- but it just doesn’t have any punch to it. It’s a little spicy from the ginger and has a bit of a bite to it. When I’m feeling a bit yucky, or just want to feel good about what I put in my body, I pull this tin off the shelf. I swear it helps settle my tummy, but then again, that could just be a placebo effect!

Forever Nuts is definitely a favorite of mine; it was one of the first teas from DAVIDsTEA I ever tried, and I still keep a full tin on hand at all times. It’s just yummy. I love the colour, and the smell while it is steeping is so warm and nutty. It smells kind of like apple pie, except better, because I don’t really like baked goods. I’m so happy it’s caffeine-free, because that means I can drink it all day if I want! Which I do sometimes. Such as today.

I picked this tea up out of curiosity- I was hoping for an earl grey that didn’t have the bitterness or aftertaste. “Cream” most definitely belongs in the name; it’s smooth and I bet it would be fantastic with a splash of (soy) milk. I think it might be the perfect earl grey for me :)

I decided to try this because I had never had chamomile before, and it was on sale. It’s sort of built into my nighttime ritual now- I have a cup when I start thinking about bed, as a way to start winding down. Since I don’t have another chamomile tea to compare it to, I’ll just say that I like it. It’s a bit sweeter than I’d like, but it’s very smooth and mellow.

drank Pumpkin Chai by DAVIDsTEA

When my husband sniffed this tea at the store, he liked it so much that we bought 100g (which is something we never do the first time we try a tea). The salesperson told us this is a seasonal tea that is phased out in November, and I am SO GLAD we bought the full tin! It’s delicious. It actually tastes like real pumpkin, and the chai flavour isn’t overpowering. It also doesn’t have that unpleasant bitter note that I find so many black teas do. I can’t wait to try it with some steamed milk. Yum!

This tea is pretty decent for the price. I’ve taken to making soy lattes with it in the mornings, but I do find I have to add a bit of flavouring (vanilla extract, cinnamon) to make it tasty. The tea doesn’t hold up on its own but that’s kind of what you expect from a tea bag.

One of my absolute favorite teas. Winter mornings in Winnipeg are pretty much the inner circle of hell as far as I’m concerned, and this tea is my favorite way to make them seem more bearable. The peppermint and peppercorns give a very cozy, warm sensation.
