This is the first gunpowder tea I’ve tried, so I must admit that I’m not quite sure what it is supposed to taste like! It was fun watch those tiny pellets expand into nice big tea leaves as I steeped it and there is an intriguing smoky aroma coming from my cup. There’s definitely quite a bit of smokiness to the flavor too…along with another taste that I can only think to describe as autumn leaves. It’s very robust and flavorful for a green tea and just the slightest astringent bite. Ordinarily, this isn’t the sort of thing I’d go for. But on a cold November day, a cup of tea that tastes like a burning leaf pile is somehow hitting the spot!

Flavors: Astringent, Autumn Leaf Pile, Smoke

“You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me.” ~ C.S. Lewis

I was introduced to loose leaf tea by a roommate in 2012, but it wasn’t until I stumbled upon Steepster in 2014 that I discovered a world of tea that went beyond Teavana and the grocery store.

My tastes continue to evolve, but black tea is currently my favorite. I am especially drawn to strong, malty breakfast blends to wake me up in the morning and flavored dessert teas to sip throughout the day.

Just about everything in my cupboard is available to swap, so feel free to ask!
