drank Cream of Earl Grey by Tealated
961 tasting notes

Thank you so much to Tealated for the free samples! I like traditional Earl Grey, so I’ve been interested in trying different variations. This one is heavy on the bergemot and light on the vanilla…I would have liked a bit more vanilla flavor to really set it apart. Plain, I found it slightly bitter, but it smoothed out nicely with the addition of a splash of milk. I’m glad I had a chance to try this one, but I don’t think it’s different enough from regular Earl Grey to earn a permanent spot in my collection.

Mmm, I think flavored white teas are becoming a new favorite for me! I’ve had two truly outstanding ones in the last month: Toffee Dream from Cornelia Bean and now this one. The lightness of the base is a perfect match for the natural coconut flavor. It’s just slightly creamy and sweet without any additives. Thank you so much to The Cookie Lady for surprising me with a sample of this one in her Christmas card! I definitely see myself purchasing it in the future.

I still had a couple of bags of this tea hanging around in the kitchen from the days before I discovered loose leaf tea. Since I’ve been sick this week, I decided this was a good time to use them up. And I was pleasantly surprised by how nice this was. According to the ingredients list, it’s pure peppermint leaf with no additives. And it steeps up nice and smooth with a true mint flavor. It’s not something I’d reach for every day, but it’s a great comforting herbal for when you’re sick. I may just have to re-stock on this one!

For herbals, Celestial Seasonings is pretty good I think

Another Christmas gift. Again, not something I’d normally drink, but I’m drinking it right now while I’m sick. There’s a whole list of ingredients in here, including hibiscus and chamomile, which are two ingredients which I’d normally stay away from. But the flavor is almost pure cinnamon with just a bit of indistinguishable fruity flavor lingering in the background. It’s not great, but it’s drinkable…with this list of ingredients, it could have been much worse!

Flavors: Cinnamon, Fruity

My grandma got me this tea as a Christmas gift. It’s not something I would normally drink, but I’ve had a bad head cold all week, so it was actually quite nice to have a cheap decaf tea that I could sip instead of wasting my good loose leaf tea. I can’t taste much right now, but I did notice the sweetness of honey and a little bit of lemon in this. Mostly, though, it was just the comforting familiarity of a warm cup of tea on a rough day!

drank White Chocolate by Butiki Teas
961 tasting notes

This tea was a disappointment, which surprised me because I’ve loved almost everything I’ve ever tried from Butiki. The dry leaf had only the faintest sweet aroma and I only found 2 white chocolate chips in the whole 1-ounce bag (though, to be fair, I bought this in a stash sale and the previous owner may have used up some of the chocolate when they sampled it). And all I taste is the base; not even a hint of chocolate. Fortunately, the base is delightfully malty and full-bodied, so I’ll still enjoy this tea. I just wish I could actually taste the white chocolate!

Flavors: Malt

This is another winner from Butiki! It smells amazing and looks really pretty with the dark purple leaves and red and blue flowers. The base is nice and smooth and just slightly sweet. I don’t really taste the cheesecake, but I do get lots of plum and a hint of brandy. Very rich and decadent!

Flavors: Brandy, Plum, Smooth, Sweet

drank Pumpkin Spice Brulee by Teavana

This was an okay pumpkin tea. Unfortunately, I’m comparing it to Butiki’s Pumking Creme Brulee (which is AMAZING!) and this one just doesn’t measure up. It has a nice blend of pumpkin pie spices that don’t come across as overly spicy and there is a bit of creaminess from the white chocolate, but I just don’t taste that rich pumpkin flavor that I’m craving.

drank Chocolate Macaroon by DAVIDsTEA

This is one of the best chocolate teas I’ve tried! It’s rich and creamy and sweet without added sugar. The coconut and pecan flavors blend nicely with the chocolate. This is the kind of dessert tea that I can drink instead of eating a treat and not feel like I’m depriving myself. I will definitely be re-purchasing this one!

Flavors: Chocolate, Coconut, Pecan

I have to go back to David’s Tea next week to return something. Maybe I’ll pick this up, sounds good.

drank Paradise Green by Lupicia
961 tasting notes

QueenofTarts was kind enough to send along a bonus sample of this in a recent stash sale package. From the description, I was expecting to love this one and I wasn’t disappointed! While it was steeping my kitchen smelled like candied pineapple…this is one of the strongest scented teas I’ve had recently! The flavor was smooth and sweet and very tropical: pineapple, mango and papaya seemed like the main notes to me. The base seems very mild; I didn’t notice any of the vegetal or grassy flavor I might expect from a green tea. No bitterness or astringency either, even though I accidentally overheated my water. No two ways about it, I’m going to be placing a Lupicia order very soon!

Flavors: Mango, Pineapple, Smooth, Sweet, Tropical

Preparation
190 °F / 87 °C 2 min, 0 sec 1 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML

Bio

“You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me.” ~ C.S. Lewis

I was introduced to loose leaf tea by a roommate in 2012, but it wasn’t until I stumbled upon Steepster in 2014 that I discovered a world of tea that went beyond Teavana and the grocery store.

My tastes continue to evolve, but black tea is currently my favorite. I am especially drawn to strong, malty breakfast blends to wake me up in the morning and flavored dessert teas to sip throughout the day.

Just about everything in my cupboard is available to swap, so feel free to ask!
