I got this tea mostly for my husband. He still prefers his coffee, but sometimes I find a tea that will prompt him to take a second cup. This is one of them. I also like this tea. Herbal teas aren’t my favorite in general, but I’d drink this again. Its fruity and sweet, not too tart (light on the hibiscus I guess) – incidentally, I kinda like a pure hibiscus tea.

This would probably make a fantastic iced tea for those of you into that sort of thing (I don’t like iced tea myself).

I haven’t ordered from Whispering Pines in a while, and all my favorites were out of stock :( so I had to try something new. This tea smells divine in the bag. Strong vanilla and chocolate. But when I brewed it, most of those notes were lost somewhere in the process. I was left with a cup that tasted very much like North Winds. I didn’t pay attention at the time that this tea is, indeed, made with North Winds. But that’s OK, since I LOVE the North Winds black tea. Although I’m not sure if the version I tried last is same as current version. At any rate, this tea is good, but I was disappointed in translation of dry leaf to cup. I think Ill have to change the brewing parameters next time and see if I can’t bring out more flavor. Also, sometimes my taste buds have an off day and don’t notice the obvious. I’ll be returning to this tea soon for re-evaluation.

Hey Shelley, the vanilla in Golden Orchid (especially older stuff) can sink to the bottom of the bag. Try giving it a good mix-up before scooping next time, and hopefully that helps :-)

Shelley_Lorraine

I’ll try that next time. Thanks!

Tasty green tea! Brothy mouthfeel, but the flavor is relatively mild and not astringent. I usually like a stronger vegetal flavor in my greens, but sometimes I want something lighter. This certainly isn’t the lightest green tea, don’t misunderstand my, but I mean only relative to what I usually drink. I love me a strong unami, but it’s one of those things I can easily get too much of and need a break from it. This tea is perfect for that.

Where have I been??! :o

Somewhere buried under a mountain of books and papers! But I have emerged for some time in the rest of the world.

I haven’t had much tea in my cupboard as of late. Relying mostly on my Butiki stash and some teas that my mother sent to me from Montana. This is one of them.

It would almost be a perfect tea if it weren’t for the chamomile. Its not strong, but when you don’t like something, it tends to stand out more. The dry leaf smells strong of spearmint and Anise. Its one of my family’s favorites though, that’s why they sent me some.

In other news: I made my first tea order since Butiki’s closing. It’s really easy to stay on a tea budget when you’re too busy to do anything but write papers :p

Also, so excited! I’m going to the tea dinner that is part of the Rocky Mountain Tea festival in July. \(^^)/

Flavors: Anise, Spearmint, Vanilla

I got this tea in my Butiki mystery box. I pulled it out this morning thinking it was a green tea. Wasn’t quite sure what to make of the “1989” but some oolongs have been aged and what do I know anyway? lol. Then I noted the “boiling water” instruction, and thought, well thats odd, what kinda green tea is this?? :o :o But I carry on with the brewing and the aroma of something familiar fills the air. "Heeey, wait a second! I know that smell. Its, its, yes I know it, its PUERH! how tricksy of them, calling it “suncha” and confusing me."

It has the aroma of a Sheng puerh. Me and Sheng, we’ve had a troubled relationship. We keep trying to make it work, but it never does. So, naturally, I was hesitant to even taste this tea, and contemplated brewing something else right away. But then I remembered how I will soon have no more bags labelled with “Butiki” in my cupboard and decided it would be a tragedy to let any go to waste.

And you know what funky sheng/shu puerh? you aren’t so bad after all. The aroma throws me off just a bit, but you’re quite tasty. Its a shame this will nonetheless have to be a short-term relationship :(

I’m enjoying my last cup of this tea now. I might have enough for half a cup more.

I will grieve the loss of my favorite flavored tea place for a long time! I hate flavored teas except from Butiki :(

Happy belated birthday! Mine was the day before. My brother, on the other hand, took me out for dinner haha.

Shelley_Lorraine

well then, Happy birthday to you to :) I can hardly convince my brother to go out to dinner on me let alone him offering (he’s weird about going out to eat, lol)

Fjellrev

Ha! My brother is the opposite. I didn’t really have a choice.

Stephanie

Happy birthday to you both! This is also my favorite black right now. Have you tried it iced? sigh so good no matter how you make it. RIP Butiki :(

I didn’t have high expectations for my tea forte birthday gifts since it has never been a top rated rand around here. But so far I haven’t been too dissaponted.

This wasn’t fanastic, but I who usually rates flavored teas shamefully low, can at least recommend that people give this one a try.

It smells good. The raisin/rum flavor is a bit overwhelming at first - almost perfume – like, but it mellowed while drinking. There’s also a bread-y flavor lingering in the background to give it its biscotti name.

Flavors: Bread, Raisins, Rum

My mother and little sister got me a whole bunch of tea forte singe-serve loose tea packets for my birthday that was on Saturday. They are pretty cute :)

This one tastes very much like Harney and Sons “Hot Cinnamon Spice.” I can barely detect the orage. But that’s ok. I LOVE cinnamon tea, especially when its strong.

Oh yeah, Hi Guys!! lol – here I am writing a note as if I havent been away for so long. School has been stressful and time consuming. Ive been drinking lots of tea, but not taking any time for Steepster. Sorry!

My Rating System

100 My happiness absolutely depends on it

95 Will definitely repurchase

85: Might repurchase (teas that depend on my mood)

75 Won’t repurchase (but I would drink it again if offered).

65: meh

45: I reluctantly finished a cup.

15: Couldn’t finish a cup.

I simplified my ratings to single numbers rather than ranges because I can’t precisely compare so many teas with a system more detailed than this.

An unrated tea is most often one that I recognize as having significant notable quality, but that does not suit me personally. Sometimes, I leave teas unrated for other reasons, such as I am undecided or I brewed it wrong, etc.

Note: Boiling temp. barely reaches 200 where I am (and a few times it sticks at 195, I assume due to unexplainable shifts in altitude or the position of the moon. . .aliens?. . .).
