drank Eggnogg'n by Bigelow

This is… actually not bad! It smells exactly like eggnog and tastes pretty similar too minus the creamy sweetness. I added a little sugar, but think I prefer it without. Adding cream distracts me from the flavor on the sip, but makes the aftertaste a little creamier and richer. I’m really surprised at how palatable this is!

This must be an old sample. The coconut has that old soapy taste like coconut gets when it goes stale. I’m getting a combo of that and perfume. The aftertaste is very patchouli like… earthy perfume. I’m not digging it, but I’d give it another go with a fresh sample if I came across it.

I started off trying this cup without anything added, but there was an edge to it that I didn’t like. I could still get the malty hay flavors, but the bitterness was distracting. I added a little cream and it made it much more palatable for me. I’m enjoying this tea, but I don’t think it is a must order and keep stocked kind of tea for me.

drank Cocomint Cream by DAVIDsTEA
1711 tasting notes

I have had Simpson and Vail’s recreation of this tea and enjoyed it, so I was excited to try the original when they brought it back. This one is sweeter and is fine without sugar added. Does it have a sweetener in it already? Stevia? There is more apple in this one with a tartness to it. A little more mellow on the coconut. As I get through more of the cup, the sweetness is putting me off. I think I like the recreation better than the original.

drank Blueberry Purple Tea by Butiki Teas

Blueberries you say?! Wow, no kidding! This was a sample I pulled from a traveling box. It was in a small ziplock and got tossed in with my samples to try pile, so it wasn’t treated that well at all. There was only enough for one cup, so I was nervous about messing it up. When I opened the bag and sniffed, there was the faintest scent of blueberries. I steeped it up and WHAM… blueberries! No yucky hibiscus tang to ruin it like most blueberry teas have. It starts to get a little bitter as the cup cools. Adding a bit of sugar really didn’t improve the tea and a touch of cream ruins it. It leaves my mouth a little dry after each sip. I bet this would also be really good cold steeped, but I’ll likely never know! This is definitely one of the best blueberry teas I have had! Now to resteep it for all it’s worth!

I pulled this sample from a traveling tea box a while back. It has been sitting with my samples for a couple months.

First thing I notice is a burnt cigar scent… which also happens to be the first thing I taste! It is this dry ashy flavor that takes over the sip. After the sip, the caramel creeps our from under the ash. Adding sugar doesn’t do much for bringing out the caramel. I’m not enjoying this cup. I think this one is a dumper. Next!

drank Lemon Chiffon by Tea Embassy
1711 tasting notes

Sipdown. :( This is the same as Della Terra’s Lemon Chiffon, which is delicious. I haven’t been drinking this one as much lately, but it’s no reflection on the tea. Creamy lemon flavor that the rooibos doesn’t ruin. It is a great decaf option and once I’ll eventually restock.

Nattie

Is this literally the same tea as DT’s version?

Dustin

Yes, exactly the same. They must both purchase it from the same supplier.

Dustin

They both also have the same almond green tea. DT calls it Almond Biscotti and TE calls it Almond Cookies Green. It is also super delicious.

Nattie

I have the almond biscotti but my sample got ruined. Good to know!

Watson’s mustache creeped me out a little, as mustaches sometimes do. Luckily this tea is no reflection of strange facial hair and is actually quite yummy. It’s like a gingerbread chai with some hazelnut mingling in there. Some sips are more chai like and others are more gingerbread like. The hazelnut usually comes out towards the end of the sip. I get more gingerbread as it cools with clove on the end. I bet this would be good with some sugar, but right now I’m enjoying it without.

drank Ruby Pie by Butiki Teas

Found some of this hiding in the back of my cupboard this evening! When I put some in my steeper I spied half a bunny graham which I hadn’t spotted before. Once steeped I get a bit of the hibiscus tang at the front of the sip, followed by an almost candy like berry. The hibiscus is distracting me a little more in this cup than it has in previous ones. A little sugar mellows it out and brings out the graham. The berry is even more candy like now. I’m wondering what it would be like with a little cream added, but I’m wary of ruining the cup. The smell and taste of it is like strawberry gum or cherry chapstick… without the gross waxy part. Gah! I added 1 tsp worth of cream and it obliterated the flavors! I should have trusted my instinct, but curiosity got the better of me.

Hopefully a resteep will treat me well. There is now half a bloated bunny cracker in my steeper peering up at me.

Note to self: Resist the urge to add cream!!!

I’m not sure why I held onto this considering my other two reviews of it were not favorable. This time I get a rosy earl grey. I want to say I have had a rose eg before and it tasted similar to this. I’m still not in love with this tea, but it is much more palatable this time around. Still, there are other egs that I love so much more.

My name is Dustin and I like tea.

I’m an added flavor kind of tea fan, but have had a growing appreciation for plain. I want my tea to remind me of cookies and cakes with coconut and almond slices with a hint of chocolate drizzled on top. I want dancing ponies and flying monkeys shooting off fireworks! And no hibiscus. Hibiscus is the devil.
