drank Sweet Matcha Original by Rishi Tea
1711 tasting notes

I grabbed a bit of this from the bulk section in Whole Foods and it has been kicking around for a while until today. My sinuses are a bit stuffy, so I’m not tasting as well as normal, but I got ZERO matcha flavor from this. When they say sweet, they mean it and sweet is about all I got from this. It seems more like a matcha with training wheels or arm floaties to get you to step into the matcha water. It just doesn’t do it for me.

drank Cherry Marzipan by Tea Forte

I’m a little confused with the prep on this tea. It is green but the instructions say to brew it at boiling for three minutes. I ended up doing 175 in fear of burning this tea. I do get an almond cherry which is nice, but it does seem to lack some depth. I get the rooibos dry mouth at the end. It is not bad. It is missing something to make it an awesome tea, but I couldn’t tell you what it is.

Oh! Oh! Oh! I have a bag of this in the kitchen! I will try mine soon.

Yay for mystery swaps with Moraiwe!
I’m thinking I may have steeped this with too little water. I taste a nice tea base with something else, but I’m not sure what that something else is. Reading the ingredients, I see it has chocolate in it which I think is the something else, but I don’t get all the other fruity goodness that is listed. There is a little bit of bitterness on the sides of my tongue in part of the sip. Feeling a little eh on this one. On to try other teas!

So strange! When I smell this tea dry I get baby powder and raisins?! It is supposed to be orange and rose, right? The tea is gorgeous in the tin, black with tiny dried rose petals throughout and I’m loving the Fauchon tins.

When sipping this I do get a bit of rose, but I get a ton of baby powder on the aftertaste. I’m really trying to get into this tea, but maybe I was never meant to enjoy afternoons in Paris. I might try this cold before I give up on it.

oh gross, baby powder tea? ick :(

Dustin

Yeah, I’m getting the taste of baby farts here. Finding it a little unpleasant, but I’m trying to get to the bottom of the cup anyways.

moraiwe

It’s weird, but I’ve found a lot of floral French teas to have a baby wipe-y/powdery taste.

Dustin

This is the first time I have had this experience, but I’m glad I’m not the only one! Makes me feel like my taste buds are a little less crazy pants.

I got up this morning thinking I wanted something chocolatey, something almondy, but what? What almond tea do I have that would blend well with a chocolate tea? I started looking though my teas and remembered the sample of Chocolate Almond Allure that Dinosara sent me. YES, that will do wonderfully!

I was reading over my notes for the chocolate strawberry by Talbot and decided to try steeping this tea at a lower temp and for a shorter period with a little more tea than I normally would because I want it iced. The result was pretty wow! I’m getting a really deep chocolate flavor, like dark chocolate with that bitter edge to it. There is definitely almond flavoring in there, but I can’t pin down exactly what kind. Not roasted. Maybe raw? I don’t know, but I’m spending way too much brain power on trying to suss that out when I should just be enjoying this cup!

I’m thinking it is going to be mandatory to have a chocolate almond tea kept in stock in my cupboard from now on and am hoping my local grocery store will start carrying this flavor!

This tea is listed as having a ton of different ingredients, but when blended together my palate reads them as rose and litchi. It is a very aromatic and perfumy tea, which is a trait that I enjoy. I’m actually drinking this without sugar and enjoying it, which is rare for me. It leaves my tongue feeling a bit dry tho. I bought this tea in the Vente sale on description alone (always a little hard for me when I can’t smell the tea first and am unfamiliar with the company) and I think I’m pretty happy with this choice!

update * This makes for an incredible iced tea! We had a warm summer like day yesterday and I served this iced to a neighbor who was pretty blown away by how good it was! She isn’t a huge tea person but was really taken by this. I think I know what to get her for her birthday if I can find somewhere to purchase it again. It is bright and refreshing and delicious! I’m going to plow through the whole tin of this during summer!

Then again, you’ve had a lot of Dammann Frères, and Fauchon = DF. =)

drank Petrushka by Kusmi Tea
1711 tasting notes

I get to try this tea courtesy of Dinosara! Sweeeeeeet! I love almond teas and I don’t think I have tried anything from Kusmi yet.

I swear I smell cinnamon when this tea is dry, but it is supposed to be almonds and rose, right? Once brewed I still smell the cinnamon, but I also pick up on orange and a hint of rose. Sipping, I taste the rose in the front with almond hiding behind it and the black base in the back. It is a little more subtle than I prefer my flavored teas, but it is nice and smooth too. It is strange tho, I still smell cinnamon orange, but the taste is totally different. It is like tea magic! The taste didn’t change much as it cooled. I think I may try brewing it with a little more leaf next time to get stronger flavor.

drank White Rhino by Butiki Teas

I just ate some food with this super awesome hot sauce and the burning in my mouth is slowly starting to fade while I drink this tea. At first I didn’t taste anything, but flavors are slowly starting to come out. It tastes kind of green when I first sip. I think I get a little bit of a potato note, but not quite sweet potato. A little yeasty… potato bread? I get the faintist bit of apricot in the aftertaste, but there is also this taste/sensation similar to when I drink a shot of wheatgrass juice. I had another tea recently that I had that same reaction with. It is almost like the back of my tongue is puckering in a refreshing way. It is really weird trying to describe it and I’m sure I’m making it sound strange and unpleasant, which it is not.

This tea is very nice for what it is, but I lean more towards the flavored tea arena. Lean, ha! That is where my tea tastes lives and parties! I’m really happy to have tried this tea that I got I believe in a swap from Greenteafairy, so thanks for that! :)

drank Rooibos Jasmine by Adagio Teas
1711 tasting notes

I’m feeling kind of ho hum about this tea. I love jasmine tea and I’d love to have a good decaf version, but this one isn’t grabbing me. The jasmine is more subtle than I am accustomed to, maybe a little on the soapy side. I’m not getting much rooibos, which is good. I could like it. Eh, the verdict is still out.

I don’t think I’ve had rooibos and jasmine before. Interesting. Wonder if there’s a good green jasmine decaf out there somewhere…

greenteafairy

This sounds like such a strange combination of flavors!

drank Rooibos Almond by Adagio Teas
1711 tasting notes

Hmmmmm… I think I kinda like this, but I’m not totally sure. The almond taste is lovely, I get the marzipan notes, but there is that rooibos taste lingering. I don’t get the super dry mouth rooibos feel, but it is there a little. It is pleasant, but it feels like there could be more of something. It could grow on me tho…

Bio

My name is Dustin and I like tea.

I’m an added flavor kind of tea fan, but have had a growing appreciation for plain. I want my tea to remind me of cookies and cakes with coconut and almond slices with a hint of chocolate drizzled on top. I want dancing ponies and flying monkeys shooting off fireworks! And no hibiscus. Hibiscus is the devil.
