Finishing off a sample in ATTB. This is really nice! It makes me think of the green tea they often serve in sushi restaurants, but there is more to it than that, it’s heartier too. There is a hint of cinnamon and popped rice. It isn’t quite savory, but almost. I’m not really getting any hints of maple, but the bottom of the bag isn’t always the most accurate representation of a tea either. I would like to cross paths with this tea again some day.

I kept glancing at the bag of this tea and reading “Jonestown Special” as the name of the tea. Yikes!
This tea started out being really sweet when warm. Sweet and fruity. But as it cools it starts to taste more like a Flinstone’s children’s vitamin. There is that artificial fruity taste followed by the vitamin aftertaste. Does this have Stevia in it?! I don’t like it. At all. :(

hahaha at Jonestown!

Marzipan

That would taste like grape!

Dustin

I think it was a little grape like, actually!

drank Pu'er Tonic by Verdant Tea (Special)

So strange! This is like drinking a mild cup of patchouli with some vetiver added in. I don’t know how to feel about this. Kind of pleasant, kind of odd.

drank Blueberry Purple Tea by Butiki Teas
1711 tasting notes

Aaaaah! I didn’t read before I steeped and used water that was too hot! Luckily this tea seems to be forgiving me. It is quite smooth and there is a light blueberry taste coming through. I like that it is blueberry without the hibiscus that so many other blueberry teas pile in there. This is a nice solid tea! It isn’t as flashy as I prefer my teas, but if I was looking for something on a more mellow day, this would be a good choice.

drank Turkish Apple by Art of Tea
1711 tasting notes

Mmmm, cinnamon apple! I’m not a big apple tea fan, but I wanted to try this anyways and it is good. It is pretty smooth and true to apple taste. It tastes more like cooked or baked apple and that impression is helped along by the cinnamon. I’m not sure what makes this Turkish. Do Turks often eat apples with cinnamon?

drank Cinnamon Fig by Art of Tea
1711 tasting notes

Fig?! I’m getting more apricot/peach than fig. I can detect a little bit of cinnamon, but not much. It seems a little astringent, but I may have made it a little too concentrated since I’m doing 1/4 cup flight tastings and don’t always have the measurements dialed in. This tea also could be old, having been in a TTB. It doesn’t taste much like what I’d expect, but it isn’t bad either.

drank Red Velvet Cake Mate by 52teas
1711 tasting notes

Red velvet cake freaks me out a little. It is the food coloring. There is just so much Red 40 or whatever it is. It has inspired me to someday make a cake for a party that has so much powdered beet in it that what goes in red comes out red on the other side. It would have to be a dark chocolate cake, so no one suspected anything from a bright magenta cake. /irrelevant tangent

The tea! I can taste the mate base. I haven’t had enough mate to really know how to describe the taste. I can taste a hint of chocolate and something else that I can’t quite identify. Is it a cakiness? Cream? Either way, this is a nice mate with a touch of smokiness.

drank Cuba Libre Black Tea by 52teas

This is really cola like! So strange, tasting this flavor hot! The cola is so prominent that I really can’t pick out the tea base. I’m really not getting a rum taste that others have mentioned, but the cola is done really well.

drank Seed Harvest by Handmade Tea
1711 tasting notes

This tea is interesting and savory, but I feel like it is all cumin. I’m used to cumin accompanying other things. Like when I use it in sweet potato quesadillas it is carried by the creamy sweetness of the potato, making it much more rounded. I don’t think I like it much on it’s own. It is kind of sharp.

This is kind of interesting! My husband would call the look on my face my “frown of approval”. This has a nice minty scent and a light minty taste. There is a hint of chocolate that is carried well by the heaviness of the puerh. When I sweeten it the mint comes out a bit more and some of the earthiness goes away. The chocolate is a little more true, but I think I liked it better plain. This is a nice mellow chocolate mint! I like!

Bio

My name is Dustin and I like tea.

I’m an added flavor kind of tea fan, but have had a growing appreciation for plain. I want my tea to remind me of cookies and cakes with coconut and almond slices with a hint of chocolate drizzled on top. I want dancing ponies and flying monkeys shooting off fireworks! And no hibiscus. Hibiscus is the devil.
