1040 Tasting Notes

Lychee can be really good if done well and really bad if not. This one is pretty good. It’s lychee not just some generic fruit, the black base is present without being intrusive. I’m not getting any bitterness or astringency.
All in all I like this one – really nice fruity black tea.

This one is honey rooibos. I feel like there is something weird in here – like just a hint of mint in the back. (Could be cross contamination). If that weird wasn’t there I think I would like this. The rooibos is nice and smooth, it’s sweet – nice.

I miss Teaopia. I understand that my tastes have changed, but I have fond memories of Teopia teas – Teavana just doesn’t have the same appeal for me.
This is a nice apple tea. Subtle cinnamon – don’t like apple teas that are overly cinnamon. It’s a little roasty from the oolong, it’s a little nutty, sweet apple, hint of cinnamon and vanilla. I like it.
Now if I could just find some creamy nut oolong…..
I actually have some of that left too, along with Teaopia’s Zen Chai – I can send one or both your way if you’d like. My tastes have changed since I bought them and I need to get rid of some tea before it takes over the entire kitchen. ;)
You have creamy nut oolong?!?!?! I would love you forever !!!!
I will swap anything, pay, whatever you want. :))
Teaopia was a Canadian tea store chain and Teavana bought them out and took over. Teavana kept a few of their blends of a few months but then stopped. Personally I thought Teopia was WAY better than Teavana, sad when they disappeared….
I found Steepster when I was doing a Google search for a replacement for creamy nut oolong. I LOVED that tea and I’ve never found anything close to it.
I received a sample of this with one of my Mandala orders.
I really shouldn’t be writing anything about this tea. I’m still pretty sick – not sure how true my taster is. I’m just tired of drinking lemon tea, ginger, honey etc. Desperately needed real tea tonight.
This is real tea. I’m finding it really malty, little yeasty (bready), hint of chocolate. It’s doing the trick. I have more and will try it again when I can actually breathe.

Theteafairy sent me some of this and wrote on the package – for when you are sick. Well I’m sick. I’ve taken twice the recommended dose of Tylenol cold and sinus. I have a glob of Vicks under my nose and I still feel like I’m suffocating.
I can’t smell anything, I can’t tastes anything – I have no idea if I like this or not. I also don’t think it’s fair to say that the tea isn’t helping – I need more than tea to help this one.
Appreciate the sentiment fairy…..
Dexter, if you grate fresh ginger, I like to boil it in a pot of water for 20 minutes. You can even add a dash of cayenne to open nasal passages. I sometimes steep some plain tea in the ginger water after it is ready. Don’t use sugar if possible. Hope you feel better.
I have very easy recipe. Slice it thinly put some honey on top and chew it. Even my kids love it this way.
Yikes, be careful with the tylenol! Unlike most over the counter meds, that one is legitimately dangerous if you take more than the recommended amount. Try combining it with ibuprofen or naproxen instead?
Tonight’s tea adventure come courtesy of scribbles – wonderful, caring, generous, amazing tea friend. She sent me a message awhile ago saying something like – “I was browsing through your cupboard and noticed a gaping hole, so I’m sending you some samples that I think you should try.” At the time I had about 300 teas in my cupboard and couldn’t really believe that I had any holes – but as always scibbles was correct…..
This tea, what can I say about this tea. This is everything I love about Yunnan black tea. This is exactly what it should be. It’s sweet – honey, it’s a little malty, it’s a little sweet potato, thre is just a touch of stone fruit hanging around in the back. It’s awesome. I’m not getting the smoke that others have mentioned. The leaves are beautiful – not really tippy, more of a combination of black and gold leaves. I love golden teas, but the black balances this nicely – makes it more tealike. Yep even in my exploded cupboard, there is room for this one.
Thank you scribbles for introducing me to yet another amazing tea.

This is a tea I’ve had for quite awhile and haven’t been drinking it. Took some today to work.
First off – this looks more like snails than pearls. Regardless of what it looks like this is GOOD. Holy chocolate!!!! About 2 tsp in a coffee mug – water 90 ish – for about 2 minutes seemed to be the sweet spot for me. WOW – this is great.
It’s not fancy, it’s not full of interesting nuances (at least not for me Western brewed at work) but it is darn tasty. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this to anyone who likes this style of black tea. More than just pleasantly surprised – down right shocked at how good this is.
How is it possible that there are no tasting notes on this tea!!!?
I received this as a sample with one of my Mandala orders. Thank you!!!
I of course am not going to have the correct vocabulary to accurately describe this wonderful oolong. I really like dark oolong and usually the darker the better. This one isn’t that dark. I think it’s really well balanced. It’s not too woody, it’s not too minerally, it’s not too “roasted” – but it’s a little of all of the above. People who don’t like oolong because of some of those characteristics should try this one. It’s a little sweet, it’s a little fruity, and just plain yummy. I really, really like it. Easily in my top 5 favorite oolongs.
