Bird & Blend Matcha Advent Calendar – Day 23
I’m not familiar with mint humbugs, so I had to look them up. Apparently a humbug is just a hard candy with stripes. I was surprised by the color of the powder – it’s paler than the other rooibos "matcha"s I’ve had from B&B, so I wondered if it’s made with green rooibos instead of red. But rooibos is actually the second ingredient in this powder (the first being maca), so I guess it’s just diluted.
It’s quite tasty. The mint flavor is sharp and refreshing, like a candy cane. I can taste a little bit of the rooibos woodiness. Otherwise it’s sweet and creamy. I have no idea what maca root tastes like, but I’m not really getting any other flavors here.
It’s lovely as a creamy candy cane latte. I would consider ordering some if it were actually matcha… :(
The Bonne Maman spread for today is Strawberry-Verbena (Fraise-Verveine) spread. I’m not sure how I feel about this one. It has an almost minty herbal flavor. I would expect it to taste more lemony. Anyway, the strawberry is nice but I’m not a fan of the added verbena flavor here.
Flavors: Candy, Creamy, Peppermint, Smooth, Sweet, Vanilla, Wood

Mint humbugs do taste pretty identical to candy canes. I’m noticing B&B seem to have a lot of specifically ‘British-only’ flavours…
I actually like it, being an ignorant non-Brit! I find it charming and it’s nice to learn a little something about another culture. :)

Most of the time I don’t realise something is unheard of elsewhere, until I read a review (often yours) trying to figure out what it’s based on, lol. It’s amusing. That’s what I feel like when I have a lot of US-dessert-based teas.
