894 Tasting Notes
Sipped down the last of my sample from Dexter.
I didn’t taste as much complexity or distinct bacon this time around, but I still quite enjoyed this cup. Sad to see this one go, and I may well restock at some point in the future. I probably should have added salt like last time.
Preparation
This is a very nice blueberry black tea. More sweet than tart, it leans a bit more toward a blueberry jam than fresh blueberry flavour.
Not as complex as The Tea Emporium/Seven Sister’s Blueberry, but a very passable substitute. There’s definitely no lack of blueberry flavour.
Flavors: Blueberry, Sweet
Oh, delicious! It is exactly what it says, Early Grey with a hint of smoke. The smokiness is there, without being overpowering at all, and it’s balanced well with the bergamot which is fairly robust – just the way I like it. The black base is nothing special but it works very well as a base, and it pleasant.
It’s like Lapsang Souchong and Earl Grey had a perfect, delicious baby.
Flavors: Bergamot, Smoke
Preparation
Well poop. As much as I tried to prevent it, this tea got contaminated by the Grapefruit Mint Rooibos, even though that one was in a roll top bag inside a plastic bag, and this was in a ziplock bag and I kept them physically separated.
So my sweetie and I did a gongfu session with this, and in amongst the sweet, nutty, grassy. umami notes there was hints of grapefruit, including that slight tongue tingling sensation that grapefruit has.
Still tasty, but not what it was like the first time around. Boo.
Oh this is freaking amazing. It’s not too complicated – jasmine, goji berry and a slightly roasty oolong that are both distinct but compliment each other perfectly.
I got two good steeps out of this and was going to go for a third, except I accidentally knocked my steeping basket all over the floor.
This is beautiful and unique and definitely going to be a staple.
Flavors: Goji, Green, Jasmine, Roasted
Preparation
Sipdown!
Ah, this is lovely. Light, fresh, juicy, melon & cucumber. Sweet smelling but less so on the palate. The finish is melon and cucumber, very light.
When I’m not up to my eyeballs in tea, I’ll have to place a Lupcia order. This is fantastic.
Flavors: Cucumber, Melon, Sweet
Preparation
Sipdown.
Slightly bitter from oversteeping. Hints of smoke and dried fruit, cooling menthol on the back of the tongue and roof of the mouth. Slightly astringent finish.
I like this better than the last time I drank it, and I think it would be quite nice if not oversteeped.
I’m going to let this one go for now, try some other Darjeelings, and then maybe pick up another sample of this once I’ve figured out Darjeelings more.
Edit: Second steep, 3min, 80C is less bitter. More of a fruity character, what I’m guessing is the muscatel, but I’m not sure. A touch of flatness mid sip that makes me think of old or cheap tea, but overall still pretty good. Could be all the dust in this sample too.
Flavors: Astringent, Bitter, Dried Fruit, Fruity, Menthol, Smoke
Preparation
Oooh this is nice.
I picked this up for my partner, as they tend to like smoky teas, and smoke was one of the dominant notes of the dry leaf. And steeped, this is just lovely. There’s a top note of smoke, which is mild, not at all overpowering. Next there’s a nice coconut note, with chocolate and caramel. And then on the finish, malt.
I may not give the whole 50g to my sweetie after all.
Flavors: Caramel, Chocolate, Coconut, Malt, Smoke
I love bacon but bacon tea just sounds weird.
I have had maple bacon flavored coffee, it wasn’t bad at all.
