This tastes super strongly of coconut. Beneath that, I taste some fruitiness and some green tea. I’m not a huge coconut fan, so I didn’t expect to love this one – it’s fine, just not for me. The flavors are definitely fresh tasting and authentic.

This is a mix between pear and floral flavors. I feel like I’d prefer it cold, but it was surprisingly pleasant warm. It was maybe a touch too floral for me, but I enjoyed the authentic pear flavor. It was nice to have something light after all the heavier foods and milky teas.

This is a pretty classic EG creme, and I really enjoyed my cup of it sweetened with some milk. The black tea seems hearty enough, and the creme is really distinct, if a little fake. The scent is strongly vanilla, which is very enticing. The bergamot is there, but not super tangy. My partner thought this was the best tea of the six we shared at St. James.

I was worried I wouldn’t love this one due to the rose, but luckily that’s a minor flavor compared with some of the others. I taste a lovely raspberry on a nice black base. Sweetened with milk, this was very nice. The way St James brews their teas, I always seem to enjoy them regardless of the flavor.

I don’t like lapsang, so this was never going to be a winner for me. I had some sweetened with milk, but ultimately ended up giving most of the cup to someone else. I could really only taste the smoke. My sample only came with two marshmallows, which I didn’t include in the cup, but I doubt they could have made any difference. I added some cake batter extract, and when it cooled, I finally tasted a hint of dessertiness, but it was way overpowered by smoke.

drank Black Pearl by St. James Tearoom

This mostly just tasted like black tea to me. I enjoyed it, but I wouldn’t say I noticed the jasmine at all. I didn’t really notice the vanilla either, but it could have just been contributing to the overall vibe. I now have a St. James punch card, so I’ve been trying to go monthly to try all the wonderful things!

Sample from a TTB. Unfortunately, I feel like this one lacks much character. I’m not getting any maltiness or deep tasty flavors. It ends up a little thin and plain for me. I added some strawberry extract to make it more exciting.

Shae

Ooh, strawberry extract is a fun idea!

I feel like there are some extracts I don’t get to use often enough in baking, so I’ve been enjoying adding them to teas!

Oh, now you’ve done it. There’s an Amish store nearby that’s on the fall “must visit” list for cider and apple turnovers, and there’s a whole shelf of fun baking extracts I’ve never gotten because I don’t bake much. Now I have an excuse!

drank Chocolate Mint Oolong by Stash Tea

I don’t get a lot of chocolate from this, but I taste some herbal mint and a little something else, maybe more like white chocolate. There’s something about it that I don’t love, possibly the oolong base, but it’s all right. It reminds me of a less gross version of S&V’s white chocolate mint tea. Thanks tea-and-cats! I think this is my last sample from our Christmas swap!

Uh oh, I just ordered the Simpson & Vail white chocolate peppermint tea, ha ha! Hopefully it doesn’t taste like potato skins to me! XD

AJRimmer

Ha other people seem to like it, so hopefully you do too!

If not, I’ll have plenty of other teas to console myself with! :P

drank Blue Mango Iced Tea by Adagio Teas

I was recently on vacation, and I kept a pitcher of this in the fridge in the Airbnb so I could quickly fill my tumbler before leaving each morning. The butterfly pea flower definitely makes this blend too savory, but this one only comes in pitcher packs, so I didn’t pick the flowers out at the time. Now that I’m back home, I cut open the packs and throw out the flowers before brewing. Even so, the flavor is quite savory, and I don’t taste any mango. I taste lemongrass and something rather plain.

This was pretty good. The black tea was low quality, but I liked the bergamot they used. It was floral and tasty with milk. It was milder than some other EGs, but I still enjoyed it. I used most of the bags in an EG ice cream, and I wish I’d saved a few more since I don’t have a lot of other EG on my shelf right now.

Bio

I’m an event planner who always has multiple mugs of tea beside me. Hobbies other than tea include board games, video games, cooking international dishes, science fiction, hiking, jigsaw puzzles, tap dancing, reading, listening to podcasts, and playing with my troublesome kitties.

Favorite flavors: dessert flavors, nutty, melon, mint, strawberry, anything rooibos-related.

Don’t prefer: Smoky, rosemary, savory flavors, floral (other than lavender), plain tea.

I always drink flavored tea, and preferably caffeine-free or black. I’ll try just about anything though! Let me know if you’re interested in a swap!

My ratings are kind of meaningless, but basically
90-100 pretty perfect
80-89 really good
70-79 good, but not the best
60-69 okay, but probably not for me
1-59 varying degrees of dislike
